Beginning today, customers can expect longer wait queues for new eBooks published by Macmillan because of their decision to embargo new eBook titles for libraries. This article sums up the issues, as well as the approaches taken by different libraries to Macmillan's decision. The library purchases our eBooks collaboratively with the rest of the Peninsula Library System. The Administrative Council of PLS discussed a boycott, but decided that we didn't want to further inconvenience our customers, especially those for whom eBooks are the only reading option because of physical or visual disabilities, beyond what Macmillan is already doing.
