Teen Explorer Unit

The Burlingame Police Cadet program is affiliated with the Boys Scouts of America. The cadet program is a division of the Learning for Life program and is an international program. The program is made up of young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21.

The cadets participate in several different community events, including Art in the Park, Jazz In the Park, Halloween Safe Streets, Pet Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The cadets are required to work 16 hrs a month at BPD. Besides various community events, the cadets assist in the front office, dispatch, participate in ride alongs and DUI checkpoints. We attend annual law enforcement competition, which is located in various cities within northern California, and every other year, we attend a National Law Enforcement Exploring Competition. In April 2006, the cadets placed 3rd in Burglary in Progress and Domestic Crisis. If you are interested in a law enforcement career, this is a great program to participate in. If you have a 2.0 GPA and never been arrested for a felony, please contact Officer Rumbaugh at (650) 777-4100 for further information.
