Ten Simple Tasks A Citizen Can Do To Prevent Their Car From Being Burglarized
- Close your windows & lock you doors (the simplest & easiest prevention technique).
- Don't leave valuables in plain view in your car. Buy radios, tape and CD players that can be removed from your car or locked in the trunk
- Write down the make, model, and serial number of your property. The serial number can be entered into a law enforcement computer system if the item is stolen
- Park in well lit areas when possible
- Park where your car will be easily and frequently viewed by passing citizens
- Park in your garage if you have one
- Use a car alarm, it will alert anyone nearby
- Report suspicious persons to the police; when it doubt, call the police
- Be observant of what is going on around you, stay alert, and use good judgment to avoid becoming a victim. If you look distracted or unsure about yourself, you increase your chances of becoming a victim
- Report crimes to the police department as soon as possible
