WHERES THE FIRE?
There will be never before seen photos and stories that tell the tale of the evolution of an all volunteer fire department, where firefighters got paid per fire, to the department as it is today--one that uses the most modern, cutting edge equipment to fight fires. You will also have the opportunity to get a close look at the 1908 chemical wagon just before it is transported for permanent display inside the new Burlingame Hillsborough History Museum inside the historic Burlingame Train Station.
It all begins at 2pm at The Burlingame Fire Department, Station #34 on California Drive and Palm Avenue, Sunday, May 17. Free and Open to the public. No reservations required.
"BROADWAY GRILL" TO SPONSOR BURLINGAME PARKS & RECEATION'S BURLINGAME IDOL FINAL COMPETITION
The final competition of Burlingame Idol is Friday, May 22, 7:00PM at Burlingame Parks & Recreation, 850 Burlingame Avenue, Burlingame. “Broadway Grill” is sponsoring the competition and all twelve finalists will also be performing their songs at “Broadway Grill”, 1400 Broadway Avenue, Burlingame on Sunday, May 31, 2009, 2-5PM.
The performers that have advanced to the final competition after six weeks of eliminations are: Annabel Chick, Chelsea Collins, Carson Robinette, Peter Scattini, Nico Collins, Veronica Ortiz, Sara Oromechi, Genevieve Florea, Joe Viscarra, Kay (Kiki) Arnaudo/Eric Ribeiro, William Hatfield and Tom Collins.
The competitors range in age from 9 yrs to 69 yrs, three are from the same family and one performer has traveled from as far away as San Jose. Annabel is a former Roosevelt student, Chelsea is from Lincoln, Peter, Nico and Veronica are all Burlingame Intermediate students and Kay (Kiki) is an alumni of Washington School and Burlingame High School.
The first place winners from four different categories will be chosen by a panel of professional musicians – Lori Motie and RJ Johnson of “Cotton Candy Express” and Nicky Garratt, internationally renowned guitarist of “UK SUBS” and the MC is Cathy Foxhoven. The audience will also have a chance to vote for their favorite. All winners will receive gift certificates.
Both events at Burlingame Parks & Recreation and Broadway Grill are free and open to the public. For more information, please call 650-697-6936.

YOUTH TEAM OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY THE BURLINGAME AQUATICS CLUB
The Summer Swim Team (SST) is a program that teaches young athletes, Ages 6-18, the basics of all four competitive strokes. Participants get the experience of being on a swim team in a fun and low-pressure swimming environment while learning the fundamentals of swimming from a professional coaching staff. Developmentally, SST fits between swim lessons and the year-round competitive swim team.
