William Meeker, Community Development Director
The Community Development Department is composed of the Planning Division, Building Division and Economic Development Division. Overall, the department is responsible for conducting both long-range and current planning; plan checking, building permit issuance and field inspections of all buildings and structures in the City of Burlingame; as well as serving as a resource to assist local businesses and to attract new business to the community.
The Planning Division's scope includes preparing and implementing the General Plan, administering the Zoning Code (Title 25 of the Burlingame Municipal Code), providing staff support for the Planning Commission, and relaying planning information to the public.
The Building Division enforces the minimum requirements of the State Building Codes, State and Federal Laws and Local Ordinances; and is responsible for issuance of building permits for construction projects and providing inspection services during the construction process.
Economic Development staff serve as a liaison between the City and the business community; working closely with the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce to promote a business friendly climate that promotes a healthy local economy.
