BURLINGAME, Calif. – May 10, 2009 - On Sunday, May 17, the second annual Burlingame Green Street Fair will bring together green vendors, nonprofit organizations, children’s groups, builders and designers in downtown Burlingame to demonstrate creative ways to become energy efficient and live sustainably.

Presented by the city’s Green Ribbon Task Force, the fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. adjacent to the Burlingame Fresh Market on Park Road between Burlingame and Howard Avenues. It will include more than 50 vendors, children’s activities, live youth performances, free giveaways and demonstrations by dance and martial arts studios.

Highlights of the fair include:

  • The Burlingame Eco-Chorus, featuring local children
  • Project Runway Recycled, a recycled clothing fashion show
  • A free recycled art project for children to complete

The Burlingame Green Ribbon Task Force is comprised of local residents, business owners and education representatives, as well as members of the Burlingame City Council and the Burlingame Planning Commission. The Task Force is drafting the city’s Climate Action Plan, which is scheduled to be presented to the City Council on June 15. It will soon be forming a “Burlingame Green” citizens’ group.

To stay informed about developments, individuals may sign up for a free “Go Green” city e-newsletter at www.burlingame.org/signup. Those who wish to join new citizens’ group should contact Brian Eli, beli@burlingame.org.

The Task Force also is offering its first series of seminars designed to help residents learn how to adopt sustainable lifestyles. The six seminars will be held on Thursdays from June 11 through July 23 (with July 2 omitted) from 7 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20 for the series with advance registration, or $7 at the door for each event, provided space is available.
